"Noted for the fresh seafood, wonderful risottos and pastas prepared in the Northern Italian tradition, along with prime steaks, have made this elegantly casual European find very popular with the upscale clientele of this region. An added treat is the relaxing outdoor cafe with its view of the park."

**1/2 -David Bonom "For us, it started with a simple gesture on a crazy Saturday night." "My dining companion went inside to put our name on the waiting list, while I went to park with the rest of our dinner party in tow. Fifteen minutes later, we strolled into the restaurant to find my companion at a table for four, all alone in the middle of a very loud packed dining room. Seating an incomplete party is nearly unheard of; I was impressed. Cozze del colfo was a generous starter of mussels sauteed with white wine, garlic, and tomatoes. A rich tomato-and-white-wine broth, finished with a touch of butter, bathed the briny, sweet mussels for a well balanced combination. "Also terrific was a grilled tuna special. The thick-cut rare tuna was topped with a fresh relish of chopped tomatoes, kalamata olives, and red onion-perfect for the season. "Grilled sirloin with shiitake mushrooms and mashed potatoes, was another winner. The juicy tender steak had great beefy flavor and as complemented by the meaty taste of the sauteed shiitake. "The dessert to have is the phenomenal homemade seasonal fruit tartlets. Our favorite was the blueberry (although the raspberry was darn good, too.) A flaky, slightly sweet pastry shell was filled with blueberry jam, then topped with peak season New Jersey blueberries. The combination was magic."
Ridgewood News - December 23, 2000 ** Joy Simmen Hamburger "Could there be a better location for a restaurant in Ridgewood than that of Trattoria Fratelli? For six years, the bright red doors of this popular eatery have shined like a beacon on Ridgewood Avenue in this town where restaurants comprise most of the prime real estate." " It should be noted with praise that the menu, with the exception of mashed potatoes, remains true Northern Italian." "Risotto is consistently one of the Fratelli's best dishes and the special this night was no exception. The creamy, flawless Arborio rice was flavored with savory bits of pancetta, Fontina cheese, tomatoes and crisp cooked asparagus."
New York Times - October 23, 1994 "Good" - Valerie Sinclair "Pastas were perfectly cooked and the sauces were delicious." "Risotto, either with chicken and arugula or wild mushrooms was also delicious. The rice grains were firm and the preparation creamy." |
